Groveland Twp.- Pedro Cantu’s art hangs all over the inside of the home he shares with his parents, Mig and Tim O’Brien.
Now, a mural he painted on the outside of their home with some help from his mom has netted the family $500.
Mig O’Brien, a project manager at Plexus Systems Software Company, worked really hard with her fellow employees to win a ‘Fun Day.? Employees are able to take a paid day off, but are encouraged to do something fun with their day. The company will award $500 to the employee who has had the most fun with their day off.
For O’Brien’s day off, she decided it would be fun last month to paint the cement wall of their walk-out basement with her son. Pedro, a budding artist, picked the design? a night sky with stars and a half-moon/half-sun. The design was inspired from one of Mig’s Hard Rock Cafe T-shirts. Pedro also chose the paint colors, a light blue, dark blue and orange.
‘I painted it freehand using a string, pen, and Sharpie marker,? says Pedro, 14, a Brandon High School student. ‘It took two days, because it had to dry.?
‘It was hotter than heck, but fun,? says O’Brien. ‘It’s really his thing. It shows his personality.?
The family plans to use the money for an upcoming Baltimore vacation and more home art may be in Pedro’s future.
‘I said we should let him do the garage door,? says O’Brien, smiling. ‘But Tim said, ‘I don’t think so. One thing at a time.??
