Kaleigh Kenny stood at the line to make her two free throw shots as the clock was frozen at nine seconds.
The Wolves were ahead by one point in the overtime period against West Bloomfield and these points would give them more of advantage in the closing moments.
Kenny shot the first free throw and it went through the hoop and another one sealed the win for the Wolves as the game ended, 38-35.
‘It was nice to see our girls pull together in the fourth quarter and overtime and just find a way to win,? said Clarkston Coach Tim Wasilk. ‘It’s a sign of building a mental toughness in the girls and within the team.?
The girls led the first half of the game, 16-9. As the game continued the Lakers caught up and tied the game by the end of the second half.
Megan Hastings and Erica Harris led the Lady Wolves, scoring ten points each. Hastings, Harris and Kayla Brimacombe score two 3-pointers each in the win.
High scorers for the Lakers were Diamond Murray (14) and Abby Maroko (9).
The JV team was also victorious and won their game, 55-28.
The girls followed up with a second win on Friday night against Troy Athens, 33-24.
Athens started the game with the first basket of the night, and Kenny tied the score a few moments later.
Mikaela Parrish brought the girls into the lead after scoring three baskets. Jena Manilla finished the quarter adding one more basket, 10-2.
Athens closed in and were two points away from tying the score when Kayla Brimacombe scored a 3-pointer and Parrish added a point from a free throw.
Brimacombe added one more 3-pointer to the board before the first half ended.
Leading scorers were Parrish with 11 and Brimacombe scored 10 points with three 3-pointers.
Megan Swiderski led Athens with six points.
‘The girls did really good defensively. They held them down to 24 points,? said Wasilk.
‘We were talking. We were making the correct drops and coming together on the offensive end. Even though we only scored 33 points, our turnovers were way down which was a positive. We got the ball inside a lot. We got some shots from outside as well. It was nice to see. We are on a four game winning streak and the girls are getting a little bit of confidence.?
JV won their game, 39-36.
The girls have a busy schedule ahead of them this week.
They played Pontiac Northern (4-3) on Tuesday and will travel to Southfield-Lathrup (3-9) on Wednesday and Lake Orion (11-1) on Friday.
‘Those are three of the big dogs in our league,? said Wasilk. ‘Every game next week is going to be tough. We just need to worry about us and keep getting better. All three are very good ball clubs so we are going to bring it and see what happens.?
