Players returned from their time-out with an extra attacker on the ice.
Less than two minutes remained in the game and with the Wolves down by one point against Lake Orion they took a chance.
They pulled goalie Neeko Muniz out and put a sixth man in for a chance to tie.
The Dragons turned the puck around and Adam Chapie headed towards the empty net to score and shut out Clarkston, 2-0.
The Wolves out shot in a 3-1 ration, but they couldn’t get it past Lake Orion goalie Jason Stross.
‘The game plan was to get as many shots and try to put some traffic in front of the goal and hopefully get a goal,? said Clarkston coach Bryan Krygier.
‘I thought we played well. Anytime you out shoot your opponent you should get a couple of goals here and there and get a goal. Unless you run into a really good goaltender that can win the game.?
Lake Orion’s first goal came from Dan Blascak in the first period after the Dragons? grabbed control from face-off.
The Wolves’s defense held their own and knocked attempts away and pushing them to their teammates.
During the last five minutes of the game Luke Connor and Dan Smith took their chances and shot the puck towards the net no matter how far they were.
‘I thought we played well,? said Krygier. ‘We got a couple bad breaks, a face-off goal should never happen. I am not disappointed.?
The boys record is now 3-4. The are in second place in OAA action with 3-2.
Clarkston hosts their Christmas Tournament on Friday and Saturday.
The Wolves will play Cranbrook on Friday at 5 p.m.
Cranbrook is rated number one in Division 3.
‘We need to play exceptionally well,? said Krygier. ‘We got to out work them if we are going to be in the game.?
Novi and Davison will play following Clarkston.
The tournament will continue on Saturday with Friday’s two teams that lost at 12 p.m., and the following game will crown the champion of the tournament.
