The season has ended but the Wolves? gridiron gang shared lasting memories at their award banquet.
Clarkston Head Football Coach Kurt Richardson began the night thanking his coaches, the players, the parents and everyone who helped and supported the boys during the season.
‘We really didn’t know what to expect,? said Richardson talking about the beginning of the season.
‘The season went by with no problems which is great for a coach. I respect each and every one of the players. Not all would sacrifice time, sweat and blood.?
Coaches and players voted for their teammates for the awards.
Tyler Scarlett received MVP for offense. Coach Pete Gallagher noted he had the characteristics of a quarterback – the strength, leadership, determination and composed under pressure.
‘I think it’s great,? said Scarlett.
Alex Popp was MVP for defense. ‘He is a tough kid,? said Richardson. ‘He plays the game the way it is suppose to be played.?
‘It was pretty cool because of all of the hard work I put in,? said Popp.
Most improved player went to Luke Prudhomme for offense and Jordan Clark for defense.
Marcus Simpson was the recipient of the Heart Award.
Simpson blew his knee during the 2007-08 season and was told he would be lucky if he was back by the fourth or fifth game this season.
‘He fought because people told him he couldn’t do it. This season he had five tackles,? said Coach Tony Miller.
Simpson came back for the first game against Rochester Adams.
The Coach’s Award went to Matt Calvano; Boosters Award – John Schumacher; Scout Team Player of the Year – Luke Osborn; Hawg of the Year – Bryan Haslinger; Scholar Athlete – Luke Prudhomme.
All – league players are Matt Calvano, Tyler Scarlett, Luke Prudhomme, Alex Popp, Haslinger, and Jeff Dean.
Calvano, Prudhomme, Popp, Haslinger and Dean were named to first team.
Seniors ended the night thanking their parents, coach and each other.
They wished the juniors luck and reminded them to remember the feeling they felt after the Romeo game as inspiration for the season.
‘It’s sad that it’s over because we have played our whole lives,? said Popp.
