Lady Cagers are gearing up for their season to begin next Tuesday.
The team is mixed with six returners and a seven fresh faces.
‘I am really excited,? said Kaleigh Kenny. ‘We are really a young team so it will be exciting to see how the season unfolds.?
Captains Kenny, Jena Manilla and Connor Daugherty have set goals of what to pass on to the new players.
‘The biggest goal for me is to pass on what I think Clarkston basketball is,? said Daugherty. ‘I am going to try to do that by playing my best.?
Manilla will be a leader, especially to her sister, Anna.
As a senior, Jena wasn’t expecting to play on the same team as her sister.
‘I think it will be a really great thing for us and for the team because we know each other. I hope this will be a bonding experience and we have a lot of fun,? said Jena.
The team has also added new plays and new warm-ups.
‘We put some new things defensively and offensively,? said Girls Varsity Coach Tim Wasilk. ‘The girls have responded well.?
The girls play their first game at Waterford Mott on Dec. 2.
JV begins at 5:30 p.m. and varsity follows.
‘I feel pretty confident,? said Kenny.
‘I feel confident with the hours we have put in,? said Jena. ‘The biggest thing is making sure the younger girls are confident and they feel ready for their first varsity game.?
The girls will play their first home game the following Tuesday, Dec. 9 as they host Davison.
‘I am just excited to start playing. It doesn’t matter who we play at this point,? said Wasilk. ‘I am excited for the girls to get into it and I am excited to be coaching again.?
Also returning from last year’s team are Kayla Brimacombe, Taylor Hasselback, Mikeala Parrish.
The team has added three freshmen, Megan Hastings, Christina Jokisch and Anna Manilla; two sophomores, Lindsey Reppuhn and Liz Zezula; and two juniors, Eryn Cornell and Erica Harris.
‘It will be a season of learning,? said Jena.
