Icers skated into their new season last week with two wins.
Senior Micheal Fiteny led the way for the boys by scoring two goals at home against Stoney Creek on Thursday, 4-2.
The referee dropped the puck and the boys quickly gained control of the puck at the beginning of the game.
Less than two minutes later Fiteny made his shot on goal and it went past goalie Dane Gill and into the net.
Stoney Creek’s Mike Orosey tied the score with 6:47 left in the period.
The Wolves were quick to retaliated and the tie was short-lived as the boys gained control from face-off and went towards the net.
Austin Morse brought the boys back into the lead.
Nick Posawatz closed the period with one more point added to the scoreboard, 3-1.
‘They came out scoring,? said Coach Bryan Krygier.
‘We took it to them a little bit. We controlled the play. The second period was a little reversed, but the third period we got the short-handed goal for the win. It was a good first win.?
Stoney Creek outshot the Wolves 8-6 in the second period.
Goalie Neeko Muniz saved seven shots during the period bringing the score, 3-2.
Fiteny struck again – this time at the beginning of the last period for the win.
‘They played well and worked hard in the first and third period,? said Krygier.
The boys made 24 shots on Stoney Creek’s net. Muniz saved 18 shots.
Cole Schaffer, Dillon Drayer, Dan Smith, Matt Campbell and Posawatz had assists for the night.
The Wolves continued the trend and beat Birmingham Unified, 1-0.
Muniz had his first shut-out of the season by keeping 21 shots from entering his net.
‘Neeko basically won the game for us,? said Coach Bryan Krygier. ‘He was very composed, covered the shots and pushed them into the corner.?
The boys made 22 shots on the goal.
The lone goal was made by Tyler Frakes with an assist from Adam Frank.
‘We need to be defense minded and we were,? said Krygier.
The goals for this season are to win the league, do well in tournaments, be ready for playoffs, and win the first round of regionals against Orchard Lake St. Mary’s.
‘We just need to be consistent, work hard, be disciplined,? said Krygier. ‘We will see results.?
The team has added eight new players.
‘They are young. They are good, hard workers. They will definitely increase our depth which is important,? said Krygier.
Next for Clarkston is the Thanksgiving Tournament held at Cranbrook.
‘It’s fun for the kids and fun for the family,? said Krygier. ‘I think it’s one of the top tournaments around. It’s great we get to play hockey at Thanksgiving.?
The Wolves play Brighton at 5 p.m. on Friday after Cranbrook plays University of Detroit – Jesuit.
The tournament continues on Saturday beginning at 12 p.m.
The tournament will be held at Wallace Ice Arena located at 550 Lone Pine Rd. in Bloomfield Hills.
