A community Thanksgiving dinner

At noon, Nov. 14, area seniors dined on turkey and the trimmings in the annual Senior Citizens? Thanksgiving Day Dinner at Brandon Middle School.
Denise VandenBossche, event coordinator, said a volunteer staff of 40, including area girl scouts, boy scouts, local high school athletes and honor students served more than 200 dinners. The meal was prepared by the combined middle and intermediate cafeteria staffs, along with Ortonville businesses Papa Bella’s, O’Malley’s Galley and MacPhee’s Restaurant, who donated salads to the dinner. Seasonal placemats were created by the Brandon Elementary Schools.
Centerpieces were donated from Ortonville business Willow Pointe Flowers. Piano music was provided by Brandon High School sophomore Katie Rogers, accompanied by a community sing-a-long.
Other donations for the event came from Northwest Heating, the Ortonville Lions Club, the Brandon Education Association and Wojo’s Greenhouse.
‘Donations were great this year even with a tough economy,? said VandenBossche, in her second year coordinating the event.
