Flag football makes states

Flag football players braved rain and snow during the Michigan Youth Flag Football State Championships last weekend.
Such players were the Chiefs from Clarkston and by the end of the weekend they placed in third out of 10 teams in their bracket.
‘It was fantastic,? said Head Coach Kevin Bellant. ‘Every player contributed and we had a great defense.?
They played six games during the two-day event. The fields were covered in rain from Friday’s downpour and on Sunday the boys played in the snow.
They were one game away from playing in the championship game.
They had two chances during the semi-final game to tie the score and go into overtime.
As the last minute played out, the boys were unable to do it and the game ended, 21-13.
‘Brad Austin made some long runs and Austin Bellant was great on defense,? said Bellant.
Another stand-out was Alec Waters who was also a help to last year’s state final visit when they took fourth place as the Raiders.
The Chiefs won the league championship in the 6th-7th grade league with a record 7-1.
With the season over and the boys (and fans) now dry and warm, they will celebrate their success with a party.
The boys will be back in the spring.
