Brandon Twp.- Oakland County fire officials are saying a township house blaze was intentionally set after an investigation with an arson detection dog uncovered accelerant at the scene.
Brandon Fire Department, along with Independence and Oxford townships, responded to the house fire at 6:53 a.m., Aug. 28 at 3875 Melanie Ct. When firefighters arrived, flames were already through the roof and had engulfed most of the split-level home, said Brandon Fire Department Capt. Erich Schudlich.
The homeowner, a 42-year-old female, was sitting on the front yard with minor burns to her forehead and cheek. She was also suffering from smoke inhalation and transported to Beaumont Hospital in Troy. County fire investigators interviewed the victim at the hospital.
Oakland County Criminal/Fire investigators, along with arson dog ‘Blaze,? were on the scene that morning and found petroleum products in the fire area. According to Brandon fire reports the female homeowner was the only one home at the time of the fire and is a person of interest in the fire investigation. One Oxford Township Firefighter was treated for heat exhaustion at the scene.
