For the fifth straight year, senior athletes at Lake Orion High School have earned over $1 million in cumulative scholarship funds.
Helping keep that legacy alive are two athletes recruited as much for their skills in the classroom as their athletic prowess.
Basketball player Cortney Kimmel and baseball player Mike Musary participated in a joint signing ceremony last Wednesday at LOHS.
Kimmel and her 4.0 grade point average are headed to Hope, while Musary signed to play ball at Johns Hopkins and hopes to eventually become a lawyer.
Athletic Director Bill Reiss, Girls? Basketball Coach Steve Roberts and Baseball Coach Andy Schramek all spoke during the ceremony.
‘She epitomizes what we want in a student athlete: a 4.0 student, three-year varsity player and two-year captain,? Roberts said of Kimmel. ‘We ‘hope? the best for her.?
Kimmel, a point guard, was an integral part of the girls? squad earning academic All-State honors as a team.
Musary was a key component in the Dragons? state championship run last year and the #3 pitcher again this year on a league title winner. He also hits clean-up and plays all over the diamond.
‘Mike is an amazing student and an amazing person,? Schramek said. ‘He’s an unselfish player and has some natural leadership ability. He’s going to be very successful at whatever he decides to do.?
