Michigan’s wild weather, which caused Lake Orion High School Class of 2008 graduation to move from the Phoenix Center to the Ultimate Soccer Arena, may show its face again on Friday — perhaps making the move a blessing in disguise.
‘It’s supposed to be 87 degrees,? said Assistant Principal Chris Bell, noting that the arena is air-conditioned.
Graduation was moved to the Ultimate Soccer Arena, located at 867 South Boulevard in Pontiac, after winter weather caused the canvas roof of the amphitheater of the Phoenix Center to collapse. The repair had been slated for a May completion date, but the Pontiac Downtown Development Authority contacted the high school at the end of April informing them that the project had been delayed and would not be ready for commencement.
According to Bell, all tickets will still be honored, with priority going to pavilion seating.
‘The pavilion tickets will be honored and recognized as the seating closest to the stage,? Bell said, noting there will be ushers in the rows directing individuals.
Those holding ‘lawn? tickets will be seated in the exterior seats and bleachers.
‘There’s not a bad seat in there,? Bell added. ‘It should be great.?
Another difference attendees will notice is the parking. Since the arena has limited parking, once it fills, parking will be available across the street at the GM Complex. A drop-off area will still be available.
According to Bell, the GM lot has over 1,000 spots, and at least six shuttles will be in operation, taking guests over to the arena.
‘We’re just asking for patience with arrivals and exits,? he added.
Bell said the doors open at 5 p.m., and a snack shop will be open in the arena for those that want to arrive early and grab a snack or coffee.
Commencement for the Class of 2008 will begin at 7 p.m.
