The ongoing saga with the North Oakland Transportation Association made its way into the Orion Township Board meeting last week.
During two ‘public comment? opportunities, resident Mary MacMaster questioned the actions of township trustee and NOTA board member John Garlicki, who retorted during ‘board member comments.?
‘I put a lot of personal time into NOTA,? Garlicki said. ‘I don’t like being called names and having my integrity questioned.?
He said he is not the only one from Orion involved with the committee seeking comments from former NOTA employees.
‘I volunteered to serve on a committee, which (Alice) Young and Lisa Sokol also are involved, but somehow I’m a target here,? Garlicki said. ‘We’ve interviewed one out of every three employees. The process takes time.?
‘Sometimes you’ve just got to lighten up and let the process take care of itself,? he added. ‘It’s gotten more than enough public exposure at this point? We’re just trying to do the right thing, and we’re trying to do it legally.?
Garlicki said he asked for the help of Supervisor Jerry Dywasuk earlier this year, but never got a phone call back. Dywasuk said he brought the issue to the attention of the township attorney.
‘The thing that is important to me,? he added, ‘is preserving NOTA? I’d hate to see NOTA go away. It’s a gem in this community.?
