Brandon Twp.- Clerk Jeannie McCreery has been selected as a candidate for 2008 Clerk of the Year.
The nominating committee for the Michigan Association of Municipal Clerks selected McCreery as well as four other candidates using criteria including years of experience as a clerk; demonstrated above average competence in the position; activity in county, state and national associations; demonstrated interest in improving and advancing the profession of clerk; and a record of contribution to their community. Municipal clerks across Michigan will cast ballots to name the clerk of the year, who will be honored June 11 at the annual MAMC Conference at Crystal Mountain.
‘I’m very pleased to get in the top five, especially when you look at the accomplishments of the other candidates,? said McCreery, who has served as township clerk for eight years. ‘All clerks do a lot, but that’s why we’re here.?
Township Supervisor Ron Lapp recommended McCreery for the honor, citing many accomplishments, including her oversight of the Edna Burton Senior Center, transportation program, and Community Development Block Grant program; administration of the township’s human resources; and involvement in the Ortonville Women’s Club, Ortonville Community Historical Society, Ortonville Chamber of Commerce, and Brandon Groveland Youth Assistance.
Lapp noted McCreery has cut costs and added services to the township valued at more than $250,000 and worked to enhance the senior center through grants and other programs, leading to several improvements.
‘I think she’s been a tremendous asset to the township,? he said. ‘She’s a leader in the administration of election laws and fighting on behalf of citizens. She’s a tireless activist for seniors. She’s up against steep competition, but would be very deserving of winning, and I feel very comfortable that she would be a candidate that the clerk’s association would be proud to have as their representative.?
