School may be getting close to being out for the summer, but a team of seventh grade students at Oakview Middle School haven’t lost their focus when it comes to helping others.
On Wednesday, June 6, over 90 seventh graders will be participating in a walk-a-thon to benefit Heifer International, an organization that buys and sends live animals to needy families around the world.
‘Our goal is to send as many animals as possible to help improve the lives of our global neighbors,? said Milena Rodriguez Moran, a seventh grader involved in organizing the walk.
The walk will take place from noon to 5 p.m. and students are gathering pledges to raise money for the organization.
‘A little goat may not seem at all important to us, but to these families they can make miracles happen,? Rodriguez Moran said.
‘The goat could save the family from starvation by providing them with milk from which they can make many kinds of food. The goat can produce milk to trade for other things that the family might need to survive. The goat could even send the uneducated children of the family to school with the money made from selling the milk.?
‘So you see, to send a family just one goat can change the way they live forever,” she added.
