Webber’s young authors meet with mentors

Eight student authors from Webber Elementary School recently had the chance to pick up some tricks of the writing trade.
On Nov. 18, Erinn Promo, Alec Dugan, Madeline Stroin, Callie Belanger, Chris Arena, Erin Womack, Corrin Fancher and Michael Jennings, attended the Oakland County Young Authors Conference at the Oakland ISD.
The student writers were able to meet and work with a pair of well-known authors, Jim Benton and Denise Rogers.
Benton (Dear Dumb Diary and Franny K. Stein) and Rogers (A Little Bit of Nonsense and Great Lakes Rhythm and Rhyme) shared some of their creative insights and helpful hints with the fourth- and fifth-grade writers.
Learning how to be better writers was the goal of all involved in the conference.
‘I had a blast, said student Erin Womack. ‘It was so much fun.?
Each of the students created and published their own piece of writing, which they were able to share with their peers from other schools in Oakland County.
