Goodrich-It has been 50 years since Joan Turner, now 68, was crowned Goodrich High School’s class of 1956 Carnival Queen’a memory she’ll soon relive.
The Goodrich staff and student council members recently elected Turner to be this year’s Homecoming Parade Grand Marshal.
‘After planning the parade for 20 years, I finally get to lead it,? said Turner.
Turner, a Goodrich alumna, spent 30 years teaching in the district and was active in both the school district and community. Turner organized the homecoming parade, planned prom and other dances, was a class sponsor, and the school play director. Goodrich Fun Days and road rallies add to the list of Turner’s community activities. Turner also served 20 years as the Goodrich Education Association Treasurer.
‘I have lived in Goodrich for 63 years,? says Turner. ‘The community is a big part of my life.?
Since her retirement in June 2005, Turner says she has been extremely busy with family and enjoys spending time with her 10 grandchildren.
‘Every day I wake up and it still seems like I am on a vacation,? says Turner. ‘It’s great.?
