Brandon Twp.- The M-15 Party Shoppe is on track to move? across the road.
The township board unanimously approved a first reading of the rezoning of four parcels of land on M-15 from R1-B residential to C-1 local commercial. The request came from Mike Potvin, owner of the land, and Mike Toma, owner of the M-15 Party Shoppe, 1970 Ortonville Road.
Toma is purchasing the land located on the north corner of Ortonville Road and Viola Drive to build a 4,816 square-foot commercial building with 27 parking spaces. The total area of the property, which is vacant and of which a good portion is covered by trees, according to a zoning analysis report, is .85 acres. The building will house the party store, as well as an additional space that can be leased. This additional lease space could contain a variety of permitted uses, including a medical or dental clinic, bank, funeral home, retail store, laundromat, or restaurant. Two entrances are currently planned? one for Viola Drive and the other off Ortonville Road.
‘We’ll build a new, better, cleaner store,? said Toma. ‘We’ll have a bigger selection, product line, a deli with fried chicken and more food.?
Toma is excited about owning his own building and having more parking spaces. He currently leases the building at which he has had the party store for 14 years and has eight parking spaces available.
Approval of a second reading in September will clear the property for commercial rezoning and Toma expects construction to begin by the end of the year, with the business opening in its new location by next October if all goes as planned.
