School is starting soon, and students returning to Sashabaw Middle School will see a familiar face in a different office.
Brett McCall, who worked the last eight years as a seventh-grade science teacher at SMS, replaced Glenn Gualtieri as assistant principal alongside April Wuest. Gualtieri recently was named the new principal for Bailey Lake Elementary.
‘This is something I always wanted to do, I didn’t think I would be doing it this quickly though,? said McCall.
Besides scheduling athletic events and intermural sports, McCall said he’s going to focus a lot of his attention on helping students make the transition from elementary school to middle school.
‘They are coming from seven different elementaries. Some students might not know anybody in their class, so that’s the biggest issue we have to overcome,? McCall said, adding that the teams system and REAL-Time programs keep students in similar groups so they become well acquainted with each other quickly.
As the start date for school quickly approaches, McCall said he is not nervous about his new responsibilities, even though that includes overseeing nearly 1,300 students.
‘I know the staff really well, and I think that’s huge. It’s like starting off the classroom at the beginning of the year ? you just get to know the students as they come through,? said McCall
‘I’m just looking forward to the change. I think that will be good,? McCall added. ‘I love teaching seventh-grade science, but like I said this is something I wanted to do. I’m excited to do. I enjoy school improvement so I’m looking forward to that.?
McCall and his wife Anne have been married for 10 years. They have two daughters ? Kate, 6 and Emma, 4.
