Incumbents ruled in Lake Orion during Tuesday’s Primary Election–except for the race for Oakland County Commissioner for District 3, with Orion Township Trustee Michael Gingell upsetting incumbent Eric Wilson.
Gingell won the Republican nomination to face Democrat Kate Zielinski of Rochester in the Nov. General Election, with 1,818 votes, or 56.65 percent.
Wilson finished with 1,391 votes, or 43.35 percent.
In the race for the Republican nomination for State Representative for the 46th District, incumbent Jim Marleau earned the right to proceed to the General Election, with 1,988 votes, or 63.15 percent. He will face Democrat Bill Pearson of Oxford.
Marleau’s closest challenger was Dan Myslakowski of Lake Orion, who finished with 682 votes, or 21.66 percent. Tom Poulin, also of Lake Orion, finished with 478 votes, or 15.18 percent.
In the race for U.S. Congress Representative for the 8th District, which includes most of Lake Orion, incumbent Republican Mike Rogers had a decisive win over challenger Patrick Flynn of Hamburg, finishing with 1,880 votes, or 79.90 percent.
Rogers will face Democrat Jim Marcinkowski of Lake Orion in Nov. Flynn finished the Primary with 473 votes, or 20.10 percent.
In the 9th District race for U.S. Congress, which includes a portion of Orion Township, incumbent Republican Joe Knollenberg will face Democrat Nancy Skinner of Birmingham in Nov., finishing with 593 votes, or 72.85 percent.
Challenger Patricia ‘Pan? Godchaux of Birmingham finished with 221 votes, or 27.15 percent.
Finally, Orion voters selected Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard over Republican challenger Keith Butler, 2,286 votes to 976, to face incumbent Democrat U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow in Nov.
Turnout in Orion was 18.72 percent on Tuesday, with 4,341 out of 23,187 registered voters going to the polls.
