Renee Hand is a sucker for a happy ending.
And after penning her first romance novel, Magic Hearts, the Goodrich High School Girls Varsity Tennis coach is expecting many more happily ever after to follow.
Hand, 30, said she is a longtime fan of romance novels and her love for the genre promoted her to write her first book.
‘I think that every woman, at some point, wants to find some Prince Charming,? said Hand. ‘That’s why I always read ( romance novels).?
The theme of a romantic hero whisking a woman out of danger and into the arms of love is reflected in the book.
Hand says her novel is the story of a young woman born with the power to heal. Though Hand describes the heroine, Corinne McCathy, as being able to take care of herself, the character finds love with a man who ‘in true romantic fashion’comes to her rescue when she is most in need..
Characters in the story are largely based on people from real life, said Hand. Much of Hand’s own personality was given to the heroine, while the male lead was modeled after her husband of eight years, Cary.
‘He liked it,? said Hand of her husband’s reaction to the book. Although Hand said romance novels are not typically her husband’s preferred type of reading material, she said he was very supportive of her ‘He thought it was good’he proofread it for me.?
As for the writing process itself, Hand said everything came naturally.
‘I guess my methods of writing are different,? said Hand. ? I keep a pad of paper with me and if I get an idea I can just write it down. I rarely have writers block, I just kind of flow with it.?
Hand says she hopes her reader are not only entertained by her writing, but also that they feel a connection to the characters.
‘I wrote the book because I not only want them to read it and be entertained by it, but also because I want them to be able to relate to that,? said Hand.
Hand explained she hopes that relationship between her readers and characters is something she hopes brings people back for other books.
‘I kind of want to build a following with it,? said Hand. ? I have two more novels coming up.?
Ultimately, Hand wants to be able to make a full time career of writing.
‘I love to write, I absolutely love it,? said Hand. ‘I love being an author, I love being a writer.?
And, of course, added Hand, ? I love happy endings.?
‘Magic Hearts? is available for $24.95 at www.publishamerica.com. For more information visit www.freewebs.com/reneehand .
