Goodrich nine outlasts Durand in slugfest

With the National Football League draft taking place the previous two days, it was easy to mistake the May 1 Goodrich-Durand baseball score for a football result.
Nonetheless, Goodrich came up on the winning end of a slugfest against Durand, defeating the Railroaders 16-10 in Genesee Area Conference play. The Martians are now 6-2 in the league and 9-5 overall.
The Martians took their lumps in GAC action Thursday, April 27, losing a doubleheader to host Mt. Morris. The Panthers won the opener 18-2 and the nightcap 8-2.
In game one, the Martians struggled on the mound, walking nine batters, as well as defensively, committing three errors. Goodrich also had just six hits in the game.
Mt. Morris? Cody Jaggers went 4-for-5 with two RBI and runs scored, while Adam Tabit went 3-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored.
Goodrich pitchers Tom Holton and Wes Coleman fared better in the second game, only allowing a total of four hits, but the Martians hurt themselves defensively with four errors, which led to Mt. Morris scoring eight runs.
‘We didn’t do anything well today,? Goodrich coach Bob Foreback said. ‘When you make as many mistakes as we did against a good team, you’re going to get beat. Today was one of those days.?
