It was a typical low-scoring Flint Metro League game, but the Brandon varsity girls basketball team found a way to get the job done.
The Blackhawks overcame an 8-4 deficit after the first quarter to pull out a 23-19 win against host Linden in a Nov. 1 Flint Metro League matchup.
Brandon improved to 13-5 overall and 9-4 in league play, while Linden fell to 8-8 overall and 5-5 in league play.
With the win, the Blackhawks kept pace with league-leading Fenton and second-place Lapeer West in the Flint Metro race, with both teams winning their Nov. 1 matchups. The Tigers improved to 9-2 in the league with a 64-41 defeat of Oxford, while the Panthers improved to 8-3 in the league by defeating Holly 65-47.
After Linden took the lead at the end of the first, the Blackhawks rallied to take an 11-10 lead at halftime. Although it was a close game the rest of the way, the Blackhawks had enough to hold off the Eagles
Savannah Stedman led the Blackhawks with nine points, while Brooke Schaefer added five. Andrea Howland and Jamie Wolverton each scored five points for Linden in the loss.
Dozens were wild for the Blackhawks in their Oct. 27 game against visiting Lapeer East, as Brandon soundly defeated the Eagles 52-20 in a Flint Metro League contest.
Brandon scored 12 points in the first, second and fourth quarters of the contest, and 15 points in the third quarter, to put away the Eagles.
Stedman led a balanced scoring attack for the Blackhawks with 10 points, while Rebekah Schroll added nine points and Katrina Hibbs eight.
