It was one game and out for the Brandon varsity boys soccer team in district action.
The Blackhawks fell behind early against host Oxford Oct. 24 and could not catch up to the Wildcats, losing a 4-0 contest. Brandon finished the year 9-8-2 overall and 7-5-2 in Flint Metro League action.
The Wildcats scored their first goal about six minutes into the contest, and then added another one halfway through the first half.
‘Primarily, we were caught off-guard by Oxford’s speed,? Brandon coach Nathan Hunter said. ‘We weren’t able to make the adjustments after we went down 2-0.?
Despite the loss, Hunter said it was a positive experience coaching this year’s Blackhawks.
‘I’ll remember working my three years working with this group of seniors, and the togetherness of this year’s team,? he said. ‘We have a tremendous group of kids.?
The Blackhawks lose seven players to graduation, but return 14 juniors to next year’s team. Hunter said the Blackhawks will spend the offseason working on their strength building and overall fitness.
‘If we can get where I believe we can get with this program, we need to work on getting the kids stronger and faster.?
The Blackhawks were well-represented on this year’s Flint Metro League all-league team.
Ryan Morales and Matt Thomas made first team all-league, while Chris Barth and Kyle Vallier earned second-team recognition. Jerry Cronk, Garrett Warrilow and Tyler Cole were named to the honorable mention squad.
