Brandon’s varsity girls swimming team took a tough loss against Milford in an Oct. 25 meet, falling by a score of 109-77.
The Mavericks started out strong in the 200 yard medley relay, taking the first two places in that event. Brandon then came back with three straight first-place finishes, as Kelly Kennedy won the 200 yard freestyle (2:19.95), Stephanie Peck the 200 yard IM (2:48.75) and Christina Hart the 50 yard freestyle (29.94).
In the latter event, the Blackhawks also finished second and third, with Kaitlin Grost (30.09) and Shannon Penix (30.29) earning those finishes.
However, Milford would reclaim the advantage in the diving and 100 yard flystroke events, bolstering their lead by taking the first two places in diving and the first three places in the 100 yard flystroke.
The Blackhawks scored a one-two punch in the 100 yard freestyle, as Hart (1:04.64) and Penix (1:04.89) took the first two places in that event, but the Mavericks clinched the victory with wins in the last five events of the meet.
