The Brandon varsity girls cross country team proved it belonged among the best in Oakland County.
The Blackhawks placed sixth out of 37 teams at the Oakland County Cross Country meet Oct. 8 at Kensington Metro Park. Brandon tallied 256 points at the meet, good enough for first place among all Division 2 county teams.
Clarkston took first place overall with 54 points, while Rochester finished second (101) and Rochester Adams third (136).
Kelsey Carmean was the leading Brandon runner, placing 28th overall with a time of 20:24. Carmean earned medalist honors for placing among the top 30 runners.
Kelly Wilson was next for the Blackhawks, finishing in 20:41 to place 37th, while Kayla Doan finished 48th at 21:06.
Jamie Hendershott (54th, 21:09) and Sarah Eldon (89th, 21:57) rounded out the Brandon scoring.
The Brandon boys team finished 22nd out of 42 teams in the boys meet, compiling 586 points. Bloomfield Hills Lahser (91), Lake Orion (142) and Walled Lake Central (165) were the top three finishers.
Trevor DeWitt led all Brandon competitors by placing 96th overall with a time of 18:14. Steve Sanday was not far behind, finishing 99th (18:17), while Adam George placed 108th (18:28).
Jared Blunk (147th, 18:57) and Blake McLellan (149th, 18:58) were the other runners to place for the Blackhawks.
