After relatively smooth sailing this season, the Brandon varsity girls basketball team has hit a patch of rough water.
The Blackhawks have lost two straight games in Flint Metro League action, their most recent coming Oct. 4, when they lost to host Lapeer East 46-38. Brandon’s record is now 6-3 on the season.
Brandon kept things close with the Eagles through the first quarter, as Lapeer East held a two-point lead, 12-10, after the first.
However, the Eagles pulled away in the second quarter, outscoring the Blackhawks 15-3 in the period to take a commanding 27-13 lead at halftime.
The Blackhawks tried to come back in the third, outscoring the Eagles 14-8 in that period, but it was ultimately not enough.
Savannah Stedman carried the scoring load for the Blackhawks with 21 points.
The Blackhawks also lost a Sept. 29 league matchup against Fenton, as the Tigers defeated the host Blackhawks 37-29.
The two teams were tied at 25 heading into the final quarter, but the Tigers put the game away with a 12-4 run in the fourth. Stedman scored 15 points to lead the Blackhawks.
The Blackhawks will attempt to get back on the winning track when they travel to Clio Oct. 11 for a 7 p.m. contest.
