The Lake Orion girls varsity tennis team brought their record to 5-2-1 in OAA Division II, after placing sixth at the league tournament on Sept. 28, and defeating Auburn Hills Avondale on Sept. 29.
At the Troy Invitational on Sept. 24, Lake Orion’s Annie Sauer took first place in singles, while Caitlin Young and Kristin Limback took third place.
Also in singles, Allison Diven placed fifth for the team.
In doubles, Lake Orion’s Sara Doelle and Kristin Humes took second place, while Lauren Bechard and Lauren Stoffel took third.
Also in doubles, Stephanie Costigan and Jessica Davis finished in sixth place, while Vanessa Fonbuena and Jennifer Bandico took seventh.
At the OAA II Tournament, the Dragons finished sixth out of seven teams, with 4.5. West Bloomfield won with 13.
For Lake Orion, Annie Sauer took first place in the tournament, defeating Catrina Bates of West Bloomfield in singles, 6-2, 6-1.
On Sept. 29, hosting Avondale, the Dragons won, 7-1.
In singles, Sauer was again a winner, defeating Pearl Chiang, 6-0 6-0.
Young defeated Heather Zygmontowicz, 6-2, 6-0, to win for Lake Orion; while Diven defeated Jenna Hanna, 7-5, 6-4, to win her singles match for the team.
Also winning a singles match for Lake Orion was Limback, defeating Nandita Bhargava, 6-2, 6-0.
In doubles, Fonbuena and Bandico defeated Katie Nash and Lisa Kejbou, 6-3, 6-3, to win for Orion; as Davis and Costigan defeated Sarah Akhtar and Cristabel Alfaro, 6-4, 6-4.
Also winning their doubles match for the Dragons were Doelle and Humes, defeating Holly Haney and Bonnie Lumley, 6-0, 6-0.
Lake Orion hosted Notre Dame Prep on Oct. 4, and regional competition is scheduled for Oct. 7.
