The Orion Township Fire Department and Oakland County Sheriff’s Department responded to a fire in a home on Hi Villa Drive on Sept. 23.
The fire is believed to have been caused by a candle in the bathroom.
According to the OCSD report, one fire unit was on the scene at about 8:30 p.m. when deputies arrived. The homeowner, a 37-year-old woman, was standing outside.
She told the OCSD she’d left a candle burning in her bathroom for an hour while she was attending her child’s soccer practice.
OCSD deputies went through the home’s master bedroom to the master bathroom where the candle was located. They said it appeared to have caught a roll of toilet paper on fire and the roll was still smouldering.
The wallpaper behind the candle had also been burnt off and the house was filled with smoke.
According to the report, a deputy was able to put out the fire in the smouldering toilet paper roll.
