Store opening is family affair

Sandy Timulak worked in a bookstore when a customer suggested she try listening to audiobooks
While Timulak did not like the mystery genre of her first selection, she was intrigued enough to try another. After listening to Envy by Sandra Brown, Timulak was hooked. Ever since then, she has thought about opening an audio bookstore.
That dream became reality on April 29
Great Lakes Audio provides membership and purchasing options for customers looking to rent or buy audiobooks.
Most books are available on compact disc, but cassettes are also an option. Book topics include everything one would expect in a bookstore. The most popular features currently are business and personal growth themes.
Timulak said she keeps an eye on the future by pursuing MP3 options. She feels keeping pace with technology is important.
So far, various customers with different interests have visited the store. Timulak credits the convenience of audiobooks with being the key to the store’s business.
‘I listen in my car and at work. I walk around with headphones doing househould chores ? the audiobooks are hard to put down.?
For Timulak, there was no question where she wanted to open her store.
‘I grew up here with Clarkston schools and churches,? she said. ‘I like the community. It’s a great place to work. I’ve been all around Michigan. When I had the chance, there was no hesistation. This is where I wanted to be.?
Store hours are from 10 a.m. – 8 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. on Saturday.
Expect to see Sandy Timulak and various members of her family working ? especially since Timulak said she couldn’t have started this business without them.
According to Timulak, her family helped ready the store while she worked another job. Her father, Patrick, helped with painting and maintenance. Her mother Rita, sister Denise and daughter Ashley set up. The family also brainstormed to name the shop.
