Despite having the top individual golfer, the Brandon girls golf team had to settle for a second-place finish at the Flint Metro League meet.
The Blackhawks finished with a team score of 409, 15 shots behind perennial league powerhouse Linden, which finished at 394. The Eagles have won five of the six tournaments in the history of the Flint Metro League. Oxford finished third at 426.
Brandon junior Laura Kwiatkowski finished in first place among all Flint Metro golfers, shooting a round of 79, 10 strokes ahead of second place Kailey Ruggirello of Linden (89) and 13 strokes ahead of Linden’s Katae Iordanou and Oxford’s Beth Hubbard, who tied for third at 92.
Becca Scherer was the only other Brandon golfer to finish in the top 10 individually, shooting 106 to finish in a 10th place tie with Lapeer East’s Alex Haskell and Linden’s Lexi Ruggirello.
Rounding out the Brandon scoring were Tiffany Harding (111) and Abby Galey (113). Jessica Laviolette (117) and Katie Koontz (119) also competed in the meet for Brandon.
