Brandon’s girls track team could be found throughout the leader board at the New Lothrop Relays April 16.
The Blackhawks finished second among the 12 teams competing at the relays with 75 points. Saginaw Nouvel finished first with 106 points.
Brandon earned two first place finishes at the relays, with the distance medley team of Jamie Hendershott, Melissa Swineford, Kelly Wilson, and Danie Ashford and the shot put team of Sarah Bond and Melissa McCarty doing the honors.
In addition, the Blackhawks finished second in four different events: the 3200 meter relay (Kelsey Carmean, Kayla Doan, Kelly Craciun, and Hendershott); high jump (Savannah Stedman and Brett Auger); discus (Bond and McCarty); and 1600 meter relay (Ashford, Doan, Wilson, and Hendershott).
Other placers at the relays for Brandon were Doan in the 3200 meter run (third place), Wilson in the 3200 meter run (fourth place), and Ashford in the 300 meter hurdles (fourth place).
The Blackhawks opened their dual meet season in style April 14, defeating Waterford Kettering 82-54 in a non-league matchup.
The Blackhawks won four field events against Kettering: McCarty in the shot put (33?2?); Stedman in the high jump (4?8?); Bond in the discus (109?7?) and Megan Ostrowski in the pole vault (6?6?).
Brandon also took first in five distance events, with Ashford a part of three of those wins. Ashford won the 300 hurdles (54.0) and the 3200 meter run (12:13), and was part of the winning 3200 meter relay team along with Doan, Wilson, and Carmean (10:31.7).
Wilson took one of the other two first place finishes for Brandon, this one in the 800 meter run (2:36). Norissa Sockwell was the other Brandon first-place finisher, winning the 100 hurdles (18.5).
