Atlas Twp. – A stolen car chase last week ended in a crash, leaving a local deputy with minor injuries.
At approximately 9 p.m. March 3, Burton police began pursuing the driver of a 1995 Mercury, reported stolen from a Flint Township address March 1.
Grand Blanc police picked up the chase shortly afterward, said Sgt. Michael Tocarchick of the Genesee County Sheriff Department.
Sheriff’s Deputy Dan Livingston of the Atlas Township precinct took up the pursuit at 9:21 p.m. near Irish and Maple roads.
Paul Andrew Staehle, 30, was driving the vehicle. Amy both missed Livingston and Staehle crashed after missing the turn near Lippincott and Washburn roads, said Tocarchick.
Staehle and Simmons were arrested on charges of Unlawful Driving Away of an Automobile, a felony. If convicted, the charge carries a five-year sentence.
Staehle was also arraigned on charges of fleeing and eluding officers; Simmons had an outstanding warrant for prostitution, Tocarchick said.
The plan was inspired by Staehle’s affection for Simmons, she told police.According to Simmons? statement, Staehle next planned a money heist so she could end her involvement in prostitution.
Staehle, originally of Davison, and Simmons, who last resided in Flint, have no current address. Both are admitted crack-cocaine users.
Livingston sustained minor injuries from the crash, said Tocarchick.
