For the fifth time in the past six years, the Lake Orion boys and girls varsity ski teams have qualified for the Class A State Finals, being held at Boyne Mountain on Feb. 28.
Both teams managed to take third place finishes in their regionals finals on Feb. 17 at Pine Knob to advance to the nine-team state finals. Each three top teams for the boys and girls regionals qualified.
Clarkston won the boys regional with 32, while Rochester Adams finished second with 106. Lake Orion finished with 157, as James Hubbard took first in the slalom, with a time of 42.69, edging out Alex Rosengren of Clarkston.
Hubbard also finished fourth in the giant slalom at 37.41. Marty Tarr finished 17th in the slalom for the Dragons.
Clarkston also took the girls competition with 60 points, while Bloomfield Hills Lahser was second with 92. Lake Orion finished with 99 points, and Kristen Fleming was fourth in the slalom (49.36), and fifth in the giant slalom (39.15).
Lake Orion’s Jessica Hutchison finished 10th in the slalom (53.04), and 12th in the giant slalom.
Katelyn Rivers was ninth in the giant slalom (40.05). Camille Seybert finished 15th in the slalom, and 22nd in the giant slalom, while Kyla Hutchison rounded out the Dragons scoring at 22nd in the slalom.
Lake Orion, Clarkston and Lahser were all qualifers for the state finals last year.
