Goodrich’s volleyball team had a tough go of things at the Grand Blanc Classic Tournament Jan. 15.
The Martians complied a 1-4 record at the tournament, dropping their overall team record to 9-13-1. Goodrich’s only win of the tournament came when they defeated Detroit Renaissance 21-7, 21-12.
In their other matches, Goodrich lost to Clarkston 18-21, 21-14, 7-15; Grand Blanc 17-21, 21-18, 7-15; West Bloomfield 21-16, 14-21, 13-15; and Romeo 18-25, 14-25.
Tara Garman had a strong all-around tournament for the Martians, going 37-for-37 serving with three aces, 26 digs, 20-for-23 passing, 82-for-85 attacking, 42 kills, and 17 blocks.
Julie Owen went 54-for-54 serving with 10 aces, 45 digs, 48-for-55 passing, 47-for-57 attacking, and 10 kills.
Alyssa Bertrand was 39-for-42 serving with eight aces, 11 digs, 115-for-115 setting, 76 assists, 21-for-23 attacking, and three kills.
The Martians had much better fortunes in league action Jan. 13 when they defeated host Bendle 25-13, 25-13, 25-3 to improve to 2-1 in Genesee Area Conference Red Division play.
Garman went 5-for-6 serving with one ace, four digs, 2-for-3 passing, 23-for-26 attacking, 18 kills, three blocks; Owen went 26-for-27 serving with six aces, 10 digs, 7-for-7 passing, 7-for-10 attacking, and four kills; and Bertrand went 1-for-3 serving with seven digs, 4-for-5 passing, 1-for-1 attacking, and one kill.
Other Goodrich contributors were Ellen Nothhelfer (1-for-3 serving, seven digs, 4-for-5 passing, 1-for-1 attacking, one kill); Katie Birch (5-for-5 serving, two aces, 6-for-9 attacking, one kill); and Jessica Morgan (6-for-6 serving, four aces, and three digs).
