Main Street reps meet at Main Event

Ortonville-On Oct. 21, representatives from Ortonville were among those attending the first Main Street Oakland County Main Event in Pontiac.
The event was orgainized to recognize those communities selected for the Main Street program and their respective accomplishments.
‘This was the first time all the recipents got together,? said Paul Zelenak, Ortonville village manager.
‘Meetings like this are necessary so we can network and find out what other communities are doing with regard to Main Street programs.?
The Main Street program targets technical, creative, enhanced design, and economic restructuring assistance by experts who are skilled at bringing downtown areas back to life with an emphasis on promotion and historic preservation.
‘Ortonville was accepted in the Main Street program which offers a great future for this community,? said David Bonner, local business owner and member of the Ortonville Downtown Development Authority.
‘If we follow through with this program as strong as the other Main Street communities have, with the help of volunteers then we can make this happen.?
Ortonville along with Oxford were both recipients of the Main Street designation on Sept. 22.
Both join Farmington, Holly, Lake Orion, Pontiac, Rochester, Royal Oak and Walled Lake in the program.
