The Brandon girls soccer team’s youth proved to be its downfall in its district opener June 1.
After trailing 1-0 at the half against visiting Fenton, the Tigers scored about eight minutes into the second half and went on to a 4-0 win against the Blackhawks.
Brandon finished its season with an overall record of 3-10-5.
Despite trailing at the half, Brandon coach Greg Back felt the Blackhawks hung tough against the Tigers.
‘I think the first half was a little more even and we held our own,? he said. ‘Once they (Fenton) got their second goal, they took control of the game.?
The Blackhawks will lose only three seniors to graduation: Jenny Stratton, Lauhnna Waybrant, and Sarah Thompson.
Back said the Blackhawks will need to get in plenty of work in the offseason to get ready for the 2005 campaign.
‘We need to get a better commitment from our players, and maybe a little more soccer in the offseason,? he said. ‘We need to get our experience level up.?
