Goodrich’s softball team is still in the thick of the Genesee Area Conference Red Division race.
The visiting Martians took both ends of a twin bill against Byron May 17, winning the opener 1-0 and the nightcap 5-0. Goodrich is now 16-3 in division play, a half-game behind LakeVille, which currently sports a 16-2 record in league play.
Like the Martians, the Falcons also swept a twin bill May 17, defeating Lake Fenton 2-1 in the opener and 10-4 in the nightcap.
In the opener against the Eagles, the Martians received another quality pitching performance from Jessica Morgan, who allowed only four hits while striking out eight. Ashley Short scored the lone run on the contest in the third inning for the Martians.
Morgan also excelled in the nightcap, working six innings and allowing four hits to pick up the win.
Due to the recent stretch of rainy weather, the Martians will be playing several makeup contests in the ensuing week.
In addition to the regularly scheduled Goodrich Invitational May 29 at 10 a.m., the Martians will host games May 24 against Mt. Morris and May 27 against Montrose, and will travel to Fenton for a May 26 contest.
