Atlas Twp. – According to Atlas Township’s schedule of roads needing improvement, Ridge Road won’t be worked on until 2007.
In this case, the schedule may be tossed aside, says Paul Amman, Atlas Township supervisor.
‘That road is a mess,? said Amman, who regularly navigates township potholes. ‘In my opinion it’s one of the worst roads in the township.?
‘The road is so bad a guy’s out there with a little tractor trying to smooth it out,? said township resident Jim Slade, who lives off Ridge Road, during a recent Atlas Township meeting.
Residents have discussed paying a special assessment to have the road blacktopped, said Amman.
‘If they do a petition to blacktop the road, the township will put into the cost of blacktopping whatever it would cost to ditch and limestone,? he said.
Even if residents don’t approve paying to blacktop Ridge Road, they may not have to wait three years to have it limestoned and ditched.
‘Ridge Road is a bit unique on the east side. There’s probably more homes on that one-mile section than any other single mile of dirt road in the township,? Amman said. ‘It’s probably one of the heaviest traveled roads in the township.?
Amman disavows any knowledge of a homemade sign affixed to a traffic sign on the southern end of Ridge Road urging motorists to contact government representatives about road problems.
