With heavy hearts and deep gratitude for a life well-lived, the family of Betty Jean Watterworth announces her passing on Feb. 16, 2025 at the age of 94.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Donald; her parents, Russell and Edith Young; and her sister, Dorothy Schulz.
Betty was born in Port Huron, Michigan on March 19, 1930. She was raised in Detroit and later moved with her husband and family to Oregon, Ohio in 1955. Due to health issues, she relocated to Lake Orion, Michigan in late 2016 and resided with her son Brad and his wife, Sue, for over six years. In 2023, she moved into Volante Senior Living and then to BeeHive Homes of Oxford in 2024.
Betty was a faithful spouse, devoted mother, and loving grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed a career as a respected bank teller and manager at a local bank in Ohio for over 25 years. After retiring, she made many trips to Florida with her husband and was blessed to attend Word of Life camp in Schroon Lake, New York, where she cherished the beauty of the Adirondack Mountains and the excellent Bible teaching. She also was an avid sports fan, faithfully following all of Detroit’s professional teams through their highs and lows.
Betty’s greatest joy was her family. Time spent with them was a treasure to her. She made holidays and birthdays special, ensuring that family gatherings were enjoyable and memorable. She was always concerned about the well-being of each family member and was steadfast in prayer for them.
Most important to Betty was her relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. Her joyful, grateful heart and faithful service to others were evident to all who knew her. She approached life with consistency, thoughtfulness, and contentment. She leaves behind a legacy of faith, hope, and love for God and her family. While we grieve her passing, we take comfort in knowing we will see her again in heaven.
