A 3-point play by junior Erika Davenport gave the Lady Wolves a boost they needed as they started the overtime period against Farmington Hills Harrison last Thursday.
She scored on a basket and was sent to the line for two free throw shots and made one, putting the score 41-38 in favor for the Clarkston Girls Varsity Basketball team.
Davenport assisted on the next 3-point play when she passed the ball to teammate senior Carly Giroux, who scored outside the arc for a field goal.
The Lady Wolves scored two more points to win the OAA Red game, 46-42.
The Lady Hawks outscored Clarkston 12-4 in the fourth quarter to tie the game.
“We lacked a little focus,” Wasilk added. “We lacked a little toughness.”
As the Lady Wolves went into the extra four minutes they left everything behind them.
“Just forget what happened,” said Tim Wasilk, head coach. “Obviously momentum was on their side and just play forward from this point in overtime. Find a way to win and find a way to grind it out. We talked to the girls about is find a way to grind it out and they did.”
Ashley Skaggs led the team with 14 points and Giroux had 12 points, both scored four 3-pointers, and Davenport had 10 points.
Skaggs field goal in the second quarter with less than four minutes to go put the Wolves back into the lead over the Hawks, 16-15.
“We wouldn’t have won the game without shooting from Skaggs and Giroux,” said Wasilk. “It is a different team when they are shooting the ball well that is for sure. It wasn’t pretty. Toughness, intensity and focus were lacking but we still found a win.”
The Lady Wolves beat West Bloomfield on Monday, 53-38, putting the girls 8-3. Robinson led with 16 points and Davenport had 14 points, 21 rebounds and eight blocks.
They head to Southfield-Lathrup on Friday, 7:30 p.m.
“The league race is tight,” said Wasilk. “Itis down to the wire. Most nights you are going to have a tough battle. We are working on getting better.”
