Twenty-two teams cross country teams trekked their way over to Oxford Hills Golf Course to compete in the Oxford Invite on Friday, Oct. 15.
At the end of the day, the Wildcats showed why they were one of the best teams in the area as both the girls and boys finished in the top five. The girls finished third while the boys were fourth.
Head Coach Ray Sutherland said that the third place finish for the girls was their highest ever at the Oxford Invite.
Sophomore Brooke Kovacic paced the girls team, who had four medalists. She finished second overall with a time of 19:09. Freshman Alora McCoy placed 14th with a time of 20:32, which was the 11th fastest cross country time in the history of the school. Junior Brittany Johnson was right on her heels, finishing one spot behind her in 15th with a time of 20:33, the 12th fastest time in school history.
The final medalist for the girls was junior Chelsea Johnson, who placed 32nd with a time of 20:56. Rounding out the top five for the Wildcats was sophomore Abby Wrobel, who finished 46th.
For the boys, senior captain Dylan Smith led the way with his 10th place finish. His time was 17:00.
Sophomore Ryan Gillespie finished 14th with a time of 17:08 while senior captain Curtis Kocher finished in 17:39, which was good enough to place him 37. Sophomore Ross Chapman was 44th.
Smith, along with Gillespie and Kocher all medaled for the boys.
‘I was very excited at how well the runners were improving,? Sutherland said. ‘This is the time of the season where the runners must be at their best and we are all improving, from our team leaders to our JV runners.?
The final Oakland Activities Association league meet will be on Thursday, Oct. 21 at Oxford Hills Golf Course. The girls will run at 4:30 p.m. with the boys running at 5:30 p.m.
