It was another successful run for the Cross Country teams as the freshmen and sophomores took to Bloomer Park in Rochester for the Rochester 9th/10th Grade Invite on Monday, Oct. 25.
The run was so successful for sophomore Brooke Kovacic, who finished first in a time of 18:39, that she set the Oxford High School record time for girls cross country.
The previous record of 18:41.6 was set by Karen Leroy in 1998.
Overall, the girls finished third out of eight teams, while the boys were second.
Head Coach Ray Sutherland was very pleased with how well each individual runner did. ‘They did a very, very good job with a lot of personal bests for the year,? he said.
Other top finishers for the girls were freshman Alora McCoy, who finished ninth with a time of 21:03 and sophomore Abby Wrobel, whose time of 21:13 placed her 13th.
For the boys, five Wildcats finished in the top 20 for the meet. They were led by sophomore Ryan Gillespie, who finished second overall with a time of 17:10.
He was followed by fellow sophomore Ross Chapman, who ran a 17:55 and finished 10th.
Freshman Joey Ufolla was 17th (18:36), sophomore James Pollard was 18th (18:43) and freshman Noah Jenkins finished 19th (18:50).
