The varsity cross country team wrapped up its season with record breaking performances and personal bests at the state finals, Nov. 6.
Running on smooth surface of the Michigan International Speedway in Jackson, all three Wildcat runners were able to position themselves comfortable in the school record books. Leading the way for the Wildcats was sophomore Brooke Kovacic, who finished 12th with a time of 18:02. She shattered her old school record by over 27 seconds, set at Regionals. She was also named to the all state second team for the second time, which is a first for a cross country athlete on either side.
At Regionals, junior Brittany Johnson improved on her personal best time by 21 seconds from 20:06 to 19:45. At the finals, Johnson shaved 45 seconds off of her best time, finishing in 18.59.9, becoming only the third female runner in Oxford High history to break the 19 minute mark.
On the boys side, senior Dylan Smith put forth a solid effort, finishing 85th with a time of 16:18, giving him the sixth fastest time in school history.
