Goodrich – It’s too late for Goodrich High School senior Jake Custer to get his name on this June’s Goodrich Board of Education ballot, but he’s declared write-in candidacy.
Custer, 18, a student representative on the Goodrich school board, is a student ambassador to Michigan Rep. Dave Robertson (R-Grand Blanc Twp.) and plans to study political science as a commuter student at Michigan State University this fall.
While Custer admits missing the filing deadline, he says participating in superintendent interviews confirmed his desire to serve on the board.
‘I was sitting there, listening to the candidates, asking them questions, and I just thought, ‘Hey, this is something I can do. This is something I can be really good at.?
Custer will join challengers Nicholas Onica, Kathy Smith, and James Bertrand along with incumbents Michael Tripp and Gary Foltz in running for three Goodrich Board of Education seats; two with four-year terms, and one carrying a one-year term. Complete biographies of each candidate will appear in The Citizen prior to the June 14 election.
