Eighteen years ago, the Lake Orion wrestling squad won their last Oakland County title.
Later that season, the team won the school’s first state title.
Coach Doug Kline hopes history will repeat itself this year, after the team claimed the title last weekend at LOHS.
The Dragons edged Catholic Central by seven points and topped rival Clarkston by more than 40 points to claim the crown.
Highlights for LO included Jake Varilek winning his second straight county title at 152-pounds and Doug Mack taking the individual crown at 119-pounds.
In all, the Dragons had 12 of their 14 wrestlers place. Others included Lance Grzadzinski (103-eighth place), Jake Pratt (112-third place), A.J. Pratt (125-fourth place), Justin Ruddy (130-third place), Curtis DeGeorge (135-third place), A.J. Fligger (140-fifth place), Jeremy Peshl (145-seventh place), Joe Graffeo (160-third place), Morgan Maciejewski (171-eighth place) and Evan Gros (189-second place).
The Dragons scored 295.5 points as a team.
