Clarkston tennis finished second to West Bloomfield at the Oakland County league meet on Sept. 29, which was held at Stoney Creek, Rochester and the Rochester municipal park.
The tennis team ran through the OAA division 2 league this year posting a 8-0-1 dual match record which included a Sept. 9 drubbing of West Bloomfield. Coming into the tournament Clarkston already had a share of the league crown but lost their shot at the outright title when West Bloomfield finished first in all four doubles brackets and second in all four singles brackets.
All four of Clarkston’s singles finished first in their individual brackets. The singles squad of senior Lauren Little, junior Stephanie Parkison, freshmen Alyssa Lukas and sophomore Darylann Trout only lost three sets the entire day.
The start of the tourney was delayed when Farmington’s singles players went to the wrong site, arriving at Rochester instead of the Stoney Creek.
?(My team) sat around for three and a half hours before they even got to play,? said Clarkston Coach Kyleen Cunningham. However she did not feel the delay effected her players negatively.
The Doubles teams of senior Emily Aldrich who plays with senior Mo Weiland, and senior Tara Roth who is teamed with senior Lauren Kurowski both reached the finals in their respective brackets but lost to pairings from West Bloomfield.
The Wolves other doubles teams, freshmen Kate Cooley who is paired with freshmen Blair McCarty and the duo of senior Jen Titsworth and senior Jen Aenlle, managed to win one match each but finished fourth in their brackets.
The competition in the regional tournament, which begins Thursday Oct. 7 at Farmington Hills Mercy, will be amped up compared to what the Wolves have faced most of the season.
‘Our regional is tough, everyone is going to have to step up,? said Cunningham.
The Wolves competed in Division two of the OAA in league play but the size of CHS places them in Division one when it comes to regional and state play. Cunningham know that the team will have ‘to bring it? at the regional level.
The good news is many of the teams Clarkston will be facing in their Regional they have played already this season. They beat a tough Mercy squad twice in tournament play and have already beaten Rochester in a dual match this year.
The regional tournament is scheduled to take place at Farmington Hills Mercy both Thursday Oct. 7 and Friday Oct. 8.
