The Clarkston Wolves waited until the absolute last minute of the season to register a victory over the OAA Division I leading and No. 8 ranked team in the state, Farmington ? a feat Clarkston accomplished on May 25 with a 5-4 victory.
With the game tied in the bottom of the seventh Frank Davis drew a two-out walk and was doubled home by Steve McIsaac, whose game winning RBI also netted him the win on the hill.
‘We had nothing to play for but pride and our boys came through,? said Clarkston Coach Phil Price.
The Wolves had already had two meetings (April 27 and May 23) cancelled with Farmington this season, a team which behind a 22-4 record barnstormed through the league after moving up from Division II a year ago.
McIsaac’s seventh inning heroics were set up by Eric Ogg’s solo home run in the fifth inning, which tied the game at 4-4. McIsaac entered the game as relief in the second inning and pitched six innings for the win.
The victory against Farmington caps a five game winning streak for Clarkston to finish the season 19-10.
On May 24, Clarkston won both games against Waterford Kettering, 6-3 and 2-1. Mike Navarre was the winning pitcher in the first game and the Wolves rode Josh Hall’s two-hitter to victory in the nightcap.
?(This season) we have not had just one kid step up for us,? said Price, speaking to his team’s depth.
Clarkston’s first round district match up with Pontiac Central on May 31 finished too late for this edition of The Clarkston News.
Should the Wolves advance they will face Waterford Kettering again in the district semifinals on June 4 at 10 a.m. at the Clarkston baseball field. The winner of that game will advance to face the winner of the Waterford Mott and Pontiac Northern district semifinal at 2 p.m. the same day for the district crown.
