Icers opened the season with their first two losses in the Metro Invitational last weekend.
They opened on Friday with a 4-0 loss against Northville.
“Justin Selke played well in that for us. He kept us in the game offensively,” said Clarkston Varsity Hockey Head Coach Bryan Krygier. “Northville dominated the game.”
The boys went on with a game against Livonia Churchill where they faced a back and forth battle on the ice.
“It came down to the wire,” Krygier said. “We came within one and ran out of time to tie it up.”
The Wolves lost 3-2.
Krygier noted they have a lot of new players and it is hard to prepare for the speed and level of play when they haven’t experienced it before.
“To come out against Northville for the first game against one of the top teams in the state gives us a wake up call on what we have to do and how we have to do it and the work ethic we have to bring to practice and bring to the game every night,” he said. “If we don’t we are going to be on the losing side of a lot of games. The new guys need to get caught up to speed quickly and they need to do the appropriate things on the ice in order to compete.”
The boys are back on the ice this Friday and Saturday for Clarkston’s annual Thanksgiving Tournament as they play South Lyon and Lapeer.
“South Lyon is a physical team,” said Krygier. “They are always a big team. They are always in the game. Lapeer, we can’t underestimate them either because they are combined schools with East and West. They are probably going to want to bump us off as well.”
He added the team will have to make sure they are prepared and do things during the game they have practiced throughout the week.
“There are no easy games on the schedule because we had such a huge turnover from last year to this year,” Krygier added. “Every game is going to be a challenge.”
The Wolves play South Lyon on Friday at 5 p.m. and Lapeer on Saturday, 2:30 p.m.
Both games are at Detroit Skating Club, 888 Dennison Court in Bloomfield Hills.
