After their fourth year competing in the High School Hockey Showcase the Wolves still stand undefeated? but that is not necessarily a good thing.
Clarkston’s record stands at 0-0-8 after two more ties this year to Novi and Riverview on Feb. 11 and 12.
‘Even though we tied it still feels like a loss,? said Clarkston Coach Bryan Krygier. ‘I think we gave both games away.?
Against Novi on Feb. 11, Clarkston allowed two second period goals after scores by junior Matt Prasil and senior Mike Fogg. Seniors Trevor Johns and Bryan Morin assisted on the second goal.
?(Riverview and Novi) are both good teams, if you let your guard down for a period they will come back on you,? said Krygier.
On Feb. 12, the Wolves let Riverview take a 1-0 first period lead. Clarkston rebounded in the second with three goals, but allowed Riverview to knot the game with two tallies in the third.
Scoring for the Wolves against Riverview were: Morin assisted by junior Kyle Chartrand; Johns assisted by Fogg and senior Alex Handley; and Chartrand from junior Mike Medonis and Morin.
Particularly worrisome to Krygier was the ineffectiveness of Clarkston’s power play unit. He felt he might need to juggle the lines to rekindle the Wolves virulence from earlier in the season.
Senior goalie Michael Brach started both games at the showcase and recorded 46 saves over the course of both games.
The Wolves have a difficult stretch coming up next week with three road games on their schedule.
On Feb. 16, the Wolves, currently ranked fourth in Division I, play at Orchard Lake St. Mary’s, who is ranked third in Division III.
Clarkston will then travel to the west side of the state to battle East Kentwood (Grand Rapids) on Feb. 18 and Mona Shores (Muskegon) on Feb. 19. East Kentwood is currently ranked ninth in Division I and Mona Shores is ranked sixth in Division II.
Clarkston is now 11-5-3 on the season.
