The Oxford Varsity boys soccer team improved their Flint Metro League record to 4-2-1 after Monday night’s 4-1 win against Swartz Creek.
After coming off botched losses to Lapeer East and Birmingham Seaholm last week, the win was well received by the team.
Senior captain Andrew Klimbal scored two goals, while senior captain Gethin Angell and junior Jacob Shafer each had one a piece.
Angell had two assists and junior Steven Walker had one.
At Saturday’s non-league match-up against Seaholm, the Maples scored within the first three minutes of the game.
Walker was able to get Oxford’s only point of the game with three minutes left in the first half.
Although senior goal keeper Rick Brady made some outstanding saves, Birmingham prevailed, leaving Oxford with a 1-3 loss.
After going four straight league games without a shut-out, the Wildcats were ready to take on Lapeer East last Wednesday.
Oxford had a few opportunities on the net during the first half, but with 15 minutes left, Lapeer capitalized on a mistake and scored.
The boys continued to pressure the Eagle defense with many chances at goal in the second half, but couldn’t get a goal.
The Wildcats are now 6-7-3 overall. They take on Linden tonight at 6:30 p.m.
